Benetrends volunteered at Camp Out For Hunger to help collect food for the local community. Camp Out For Hunger collects non-perishable food items on behalf of Philabundance. Since 1998, WMMRs Preston & Steve morning show has held an annual Camp Out For Hunger, in which both Preston and Steve "camp out" for one week in November to raise food for Philabundance. The show awards prizes to individuals and groups that donate the most food. Since 1998, the event has raised hundreds of tons to feed the hungry across the Delaware Valley.
Throughout the week, supporters came down to Camp Out each day ready to fight hunger. Supporters were able to purchase bags of food to donate through the ACME Mobile Market, in addition to bringing food and financial donations from home. There were famous faces throughout the week who made it a point to stop by, including Governor Corbett, the 6ABC Action News morning team, The Phillies Phanatic and so many more!
Local companies also did their part in supporting Camp Out for Hunger by donating thousands of pounds of food. Dietz & Watson donated 12,900 lbs., Subaru donated 341,029 lbs., and Acme donated a whopping 108,359 lbs.! There were also received generous financial contributions from our friends at First Niagara Bank, who donated $25,000, and Comcast Spectacor who donated $20,865, among countless other generous donations from companies across the region!
Camp Out For Hunger 2013 Totals set a new record:
- $240, 521.97 in monetary donations.
- 772,461 pounds of food collected.
The food and financial donations directly benefit local families in need of assistance throughout the year. We want to give a BIG thank you to everyone who supported and contributed to Preston & Steves Camp Out For Hunger! You guys rock!
