Rocco N. Fiorentino wins The American Foundation For The Blind's (AFB) Prestigious 2012 Helen Keller Achievement Award

On the evening of June 7, 2012, Donald A. Goldsmith, Vornado Realty Trust, CBS Television Network, the Delta Gamma Foundation and Rocco N. Fiorentino will all be honored with the American Foundation for the Blinds (AFB) prestigious Helen Keller Achievement Award for continuing Kellers extraordinary legacy to leave the world a better place than she found it. The black tie gala will be held at the New York Marriott Downtown, marking the 17th annual Helen Keller Achievement Awards ceremony.

"Helen Keller believed the power of effecting change is within ourselves," said Carl R. Augusto, AFBs President and CEO. "The 2012 award winners have expanded possibilities for millions of people all over the world, and we are thrilled to recognize their important work."

Rocco Fiorentino, 15, is not only an accomplished jazz singer and pianist, he is also an award-winning humanitarian advocating for children who are blind or visually impaired. His greatest gift is his positive outlook on life and the impact he has made on thousands of people. Blind, due to premature birth, Rocco is the Ambassador of The Little Rock Foundation, named for him, and he serves as an educator and lobbyist. He is responsible for $1.2 million being dedicated to Braille services and education in the State of New Jersey and saving the jobs of 50 employees, valued at $611,000, at the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Rocco is also the inspiration behind a resolution signed into law in 2009 in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania stating that every October will be named "Blindness Awareness Month." Today there are 44 states participating in this nationwide campaign. Rocco will perform as the finale of the award presentations.
